English

In English, students learn about the study and use of the English language in its various textual forms. These encompass spoken, written and visual texts through which meaning is shaped, conveyed, interpreted and reflected. Complexity increases as students progress through their schooling.

The curriculum we offer is diverse and challenging. We focus strongly on differentiation to meet the various needs and abilities of our students. In each year group, there is a HPGE class which provides the opportunity for students to study a variety of sophisticated and complex texts. We use an explicit teaching framework to ensure quality teaching and learning is delivered to all students.

Our units of work focus on various themes and writing skills, utilising a range of literature including poetry, novel, film, drama, graphic novels and short story texts. The literature includes Australian content and has a significant Indigenous focus. There is a strong emphasis on allowing students the opportunity to develop and expand their skills and knowledge in the key areas of:

· reading/viewing

· writing

· speaking

· listening

· computer technology

The course is designed for students to become critical thinkers and analytical in deconstructing different texts used in diverse cultural, social and historical contexts.
